Staff Spotlight
Reading specialist Heather Capozzi
We're wrapping up the month of April with our wonderful reading specialist Heather Capozzi. Learn more about her, starting....now!
How long have you been teaching?
This is my 26th year teaching, 22 of which have been here at Haycock.
What do you love about Haycock?
I feel very lucky to be able to work with so many collaborative and talented educators. The support and kindness from each and every staff member is what makes Haycock a special place to work.
What makes you smile or brings you calm?
My family brings me joy -- my wonderful husband of 29 years, my 3 lovely daughters, and my aging pup! The beach brings me calm -- walking, reading, and wave-watching.
What books are you currently reading?
So many books, so little time! My top 3 books this year are:
- The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters. It's a story about an Indigenous family from Nova Scotia that encounters tragic loss and struggles.
- The Snow Hare by Paula Lichtarowicz. It's based on a true story of survival and resilience during WWII.
- Three Hours in Paris by Cara Black. Such a thrilling spy novel, captivating to the very end!
What other media entertains you?
I love to watch action thrillers -- from James Bond to Jason Bourne. My all-time favorite singer is Sheryl Crow -- Soak Up the Sun!
What fills your time outside of school?
I enjoy long walks and taking pictures of nature & flowers. In the summer, I love paddleboarding and reading on my front porch.
Our students love "fun facts" about people and topics. What's a fun fact about you?
After my second year of teaching, I went backpacking through Europe. During my stay in Interlaken, Switzerland, I jumped off a cliff to parachute over the lake and countryside. Thankfully, I rode tandem with an expert guide.
