Staff Spotlight
Fifth grade teacher Katie Hopping
Our Staff Spotlight series introduces you to Katie Hopping this week. She was new to Haycock last year, and we're so glad to have her as part of the team!
What do you love about Haycock?
Haycock creates a wonderful community of learners including students, staff, and parents. This school has been so welcoming and kind to me. Moving here and meeting new people and starting over could have been really daunting but this community made the transition so easy. I have really enjoyed being a part of this school and community.
What makes you smile or brings you calm?
I really enjoy finding common ground with my students and being able to discuss a topic we are both really interested in. Every day, they help me learn something new and I love being able to share those things.
What books are you currently reading?
I have recently discovered fantasy books. I was always nervous about them, but my students convinced me to give it a try. I have been working my way through all of the most popular fantasy books of the last few years.
What other media entertains you?
I've really been enjoying listening to the "Ologies with Alie Ward" science podcast.
What fills your time outside of school?
My hobbies mainly surround my animals. I have two dogs, Korra and August, and a cat, Aglet. They make our home so lovely and I try and include them in most things that I do.
I have recently taken up stand-up paddle boarding and am trying to get my dogs to participate, though currently unsuccessful. I also really enjoy snuggling up with them on the couch and reading a good book.
Our students love "fun facts" about people and topics. What's a fun fact about you?
I am a big fan of novelty earring and like to wear them to match any occasion!
