Military-Connected Students and Families

Resources & Information for Our Military Families

Fairfax County Public Schools and Haycock Elementary School are committed to supporting our military-connected students. We value you and are thankful for your service!

Haycock sponsors a new family welcome meeting for students and parents to help them become familiar with the building, classrooms, and the Haycock community.  Student Ambassadors give tours to the new families, introduce them to key staff members, and answer questions as they transition to our school.  New students also participate in small lunch bunches with the school counselors, where they can meet peers and ask questions as they transition to the school.

Blue Star Welcome Week

During Blue Star Welcome Week in September, military-connected families are invited to the school for a light breakfast to celebrate and welcome families.

Veterans Day Concert

Second grade students hold an annual Veterans Day concert, where each of the branches of the military is honored and patriotic songs are sung!  Family members who currently serve and veterans are invited to stand with the students as they are honored by the Haycock community.

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child.  We recognize and show our appreciation for military-connected students by participating in Purple Up Day.  Students and staff are encouraged to wear the color purple this day and military-connected students join together in the courtyard for popsicles.
