Staff Spotlight
Second grade teacher Karolina Medina
Next up in our Staff Spotlight series is the delightful Karolina Medina. She joined us last year as a second grade teacher!
How many years have you been a teacher?
This is my fourth year teaching. Before coming to Haycock, I taught in Bethesda. I worked with transitional kindergartners. Although I loved every second with my younger students, I wouldn't trade 2nd grade for anything! I just love being able to be in an environment where I get to grow and learn each day.
What do you love about Haycock?
I feel at home when I come to Haycock! I feel supported and confident in my teaching thanks to the community of teachers, administrators, and parents around me. 💗
What makes you smile or brings you calm?
Talking to my mom and dad on the phone brightens all my days. Knowing that they are just a call or FaceTime away just makes me feel at peace, even from a distance.
What books are you currently reading?
Puerto Rico: A National History- Although I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, being away from home makes me want to learn more about its history and identity.
What other media entertains you?
Reality TV shows, especially Real Housewives. My favorite is Real Housewives of Potomac because they show all the landmarks around us and places we often visit.
What fills your time outside of school?
Yoga, travel, and being a better cook
Our students love "fun facts" about people and topics. What's a fun fact about you?
I moved to the US from Puerto Rico 4 years ago. I studied Elementary Education. When I graduated in 2020 (virtually!), I knew I wanted to live near DC and explore the city!
