Second grade teacher Christine Thurber
We're starting 2025 with a Staff Spotlight on second grade teacher Christine Thurber.
How long have you been a teacher?
This is my 14th year teaching. I've been at Haycock for six years.
What were you like as a kid?
As a child, I loved imaginative play, doodling, building forts, climbing trees, and dancing ballet.
What made you want to work in a school?
I enjoy working in a school because every day is unique, there is always something new to learn, and there is never a dull moment!
What do you love about Haycock?
I love how supportive the Haycock community is!
What makes you smile or relaxes you?
Seeing my sons play together makes me smile and sitting at the beach or on my porch during a thunderstorm relaxes me.
What books are you currently reading?
I usually gravitate towards autobiographies.
What other media entertains you?
I love dystopian dramas, psychological thrillers, and science fiction movies and TV shows. My current favorite TV shows are "Silo" and "Severance". I also enjoy listening to house, electronic, reggae, and rock music.
What fills your time outside of school?
My interests include indoor cycling & exercising, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with my two sons and my husband.
Our students love "fun facts" about people and topics. What's a fun fact about you?
I'm really good at whistling and I used to play the clarinet!
Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself that wasn't asked?
I am fascinated by extreme weather, the deep sea, and outer space.
