Staff Spotlight
Fourth grade teacher Vivian Choi
This week's Staff Spotlight introduces you to Vivian Choi. She's in her second year with us as a fourth grade teacher.
How long have you been a teacher?
I spent 7 years working at a private school in Falls Church before coming to work for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). This is my 17th year with the county. Haycock is the fifth school I've worked at in FCPS.
What do you love about Haycock?
I love the warm and supportive community, working with enthusiastic learners, and teaming up with passionate and dedicate educators. Haycock is a truly special place to work and I am grateful to be part of such a dynamic community!
What makes you smile or relaxes you?
My daughter and students put a smile on my face, as does spending time with my family and friends.
What relaxes me is time on my mat at the yoga studio, reading a book on my hammock, listening to music, and connecting with nature.
What books are you currently reading?
The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Mate
What other media entertains you?
The last TV show I binged was Love is Blind (DC edition), but I generally enjoy documentaries and stand-up comedy specials.
What fills your time outside of school?
I love traveling, yoga, hiking, plants, music, live performances, exploring new restaurants, and learning about indigenous cultures.
Our students love "fun facts" about people and topics. What's a fun fact about you?
I hiked the 5,790 ft summit of Angels Landing in Zion National Park! What a spectacular view!!!
