Staff Spotlight
School counselor Teresa Padgett
We're kicking off this year's Staff Spotlight series with the often-beaming Teresa Padgett. She is one of Haycock's two school counselors. She started at Haycock as an intern and long-term substitute in the spring of 2023. We were lucky enough to keep her!
Tell us about the winding path that led you to Haycock.
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana for 2 years where I taught English and HIV prevention education. Upon returning from Botswana, I worked as a Pre-K teacher and ESOL tutor for a year in a small town in Georgia. Then I made my way to Northern Virginia where I was a kindergarten instructional aide for 2 years at Sunrise Valley Elementary School. This will be my 2nd full year as a school counselor at Haycock.
What do you love about Haycock?
I love our active community - including staff, students, and families. I also love having two school turtles and outdoor spaces to learn and take breaks.
What makes you smile or brings you calm?
Being with my cat Leo and getting out into nature helps me feel calm and step away from the chaos for a bit.
