After an exhaustive search, Fairfax County announced the next principal for Haycock Elementary last night. We'd like to welcome Mr. Scott Bloom to the Haycock community! Assistant superintendent Fabio Zuluaga had this to say about our next leader:

Since 2012, Mr. Bloom has been the principal at Freedom Hill Elementary. Prior to coming to Fairfax County Public Schools in 2012, Mr. Bloom was an assistant principal in the Prince William County School District as well as an assistant principal in the Dorchester School District in South Carolina.  Mr. Bloom has worked as an educational administrator for 12 years in addition to working as a 2nd and 4th grade teacher in Pennsylvania and Prince William County, respectively, for several years...
Mr. Bloom is a veteran principal who validates and recognizes the multiple nationalities, cultures, and different perspectives of his school community. He has proven adept at cultivating a positive school community; modeled high expectations for all and built collaborative trust within the school and the community at large. Scott understands the importance of a welcoming and inclusive school culture and he also understands the importance of open, transparent communication with all stakeholders.

Additionally, Mr. Bloom has the skills, training, and dispositions to support, promote, and enhance multiple programs:  such as Advanced Academics and Special Education, in addition to supporting a robust after-school program. This has been evident throughout his tenure at Freedom Hill. He provided opportunities for parent and family involvement in all school activities and he was highly visible with the community.

Mr. Bloom will start at Haycock on August 15, 2019, just in time to start the school year!
